All of our instructors must have the mandatory certifications required to become a driving instructor, and also a background of working with kids in some capacity. Some of our instructors also have a law enforcement background. ‘We want parents to feel safe with who’s driving their children.” Ask for their DSI. Every licensed driving instructor is issued a “DSI” number. Ask to see your instructor’s DSI to confirm they are licensed by the state.
Carolyn Dardani-Horensky – Owner and Supervising Instructor. Has 10 years of experience of working with teenagers in South Brunswick High School. South Brunswick Township resident since 1988. Graduated North Brunswick Township High School, 1985. Graduated Taylor Business Institute, 1986. Enjoys spending time with her family and her friends. Also a Notary Public. She enjoys quad riding, classic cars, real estate, and her 5 doggies and 3 kitties. Her daughter graduated Rider University with a Master’s in accounting and a CPA and is currently employed at Baker Tilly in Philly as Manager of the Global Forensic Consulting Services and her son graduated UTI in Exton, PA with a diesel mechanic certification and is currently employed at East Brunswick Township Public Works. Her 3 step-children are all still in school with bright futures ahead of them.
Tom Gerenza – Certified Driving Instructor. Resident of South Brunswick for the past 13 years. Former Owner/Florist of Flowers by Tom located in South Brunswick for over 25 years. Tom lives with his wife, Michele, who is employed as a bus driver by South Brunswick Board of Education. He also has two daughters, Korryn and Heather, both graduates of South Brunswick High School. Tom not only has two grand-dogs but is a happy grandpa to a beautiful granddaughter.
Scott Battyanyi – Certified Driving Instructor. Originally from Milltown, NJ, now a South Brunswick resident over 20 years. Employed by Dow Jones and worked for The Wall Street Journal newspaper for the last 19 years. He can fix anything and enjoys working on automobiles as a hobby. Scott has helped raise his girlfriend’s children, Joseph and Kelly and taught them both to drive. Joseph is a US Marine, and Kelly is SBHS graduate who is furthering her studies! Scott enjoys all sports, including pro football, hockey, softball, fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Scott coached inter-mural softball for 2 years. He is an avid organic gardener, splits firewood by hand, and can often be found enjoying the outdoors. He has always exhibited patience and understanding which is needed to become a valuable instructor.
Essa Zare – Certified driving school instructor. A resident of East Brunswick N.J. and a mailman for Monmouth Junction. Essa loves his family and enjoys spending time with them.
Gary Johnson – Certified Driving Instructor. Gary graduated school for Pharmacutical Tech. He loves working with kids. Gary also drove a school bus for many years. He loves skateboarding. In his spare time he also teaches kids to skateboard. He’s very easy going and enjoys the furry 4 leggers (dogs).
Sean Edwards – Certified Driving Instructor. Sean graduated from WW-P South High School in 2002 and Springfield College in 2006. Sean is currently a driver ed., health, and physical education teacher at South Brunswick High School. He coaches boy’s basketball and girl’s lacrosse at SBHS. Sean grew up in Plainsboro, NJ and now resides just over the bridge in Levittown, Pennsylvania with his wife, two daughters, and their chihuahuas. Sean loves the Yankees and Giants and enjoys playing in adult basketball and softball leagues in his spare time.
Mike Callagy – Certified Driving Instructor. A resident of South Brunswick for the past 8 years. A retired Police Officer from the township of Weehawken, where he worked for 25 years. He lives with his family in Kendall Park. His youngest daughter attends Crossroads South Middle School and his son, Michael, currently attends Wilkes University in PA and is studying to become a nurse. He also loves riding his Harley, watching the New York Yankees and going fishing when he has the time. Mike has taught both his children and his children’s friends to drive since they know him to be easy going and fun to be around. Mike has a lot of patience and that is demonstrated by the fact that he has been a division leader at Mill Road Day Camp for the past 4 summers mentoring Counselors in Training (CIT) to become responsible counselors while still having a good time. Mike works part time at Homeland Security with the Terrorism Task Force and with Windsor/Brunswick Driving Academy.
Julie Marchesani – Authorized Agent – She is a resident of South Brunswick and has 3 children. 2 graduated Rutgers University and 1 attending Rider University. Worked for the South Brunswick Board of Education for the past 10 years and still works part-time as a School Crossing Guard. Julie enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
